About us

Scientific Institute of Advanced Educational Technologies at Tomsk State University was created as a response to the challenges identified with the technologization and digitalization of the world. Also, it is associated with the need to ensure equal access to quality education service and the possibility of lifelong learning for everyone.

The mission of the Institute is to transform learning and teaching in a modern university. Transforming learning and teaching involves updating and creating original technologies, unique content and formats. The transformation of the learning and teaching processes is achieved through fundamental research in the field of education; development of educational technologies (teaching), using artificial intelligence and the results of research on intellectual activity. The time has come when the university cannot cope with the global education chalanges alone. The inclusion of external stakeholders is an important precondition for the success of education transformation.

One of the main objectives of the Institute is the implementation of research and development activities in accordance with digital trends in the areas of advanced educational technologies. Specialists and partners of the Institute are going to pay special attention to the integration of technologies and educational practices for the flexibility of teaching, learning and assessment processes, the study and development of technological learning environments, neuroscience achievements for high educational results, the potential of adaptive and blended learning, the effectiveness of educational technologies and their correlation with psychological characteristics of new generation, analytical technologies and work with a large array of data.

  • Testing of digital educational technologies, including technologies of virtual / augmented / mixed reality, 3D and 4D-modeling and printing, neuroformation;
  • Partnering in advanced educational technology with EdTech companies;
  • Implementation of international projects in the field of online learning and digital educational technologies;
  • Educational analytics on the results of work in digital educational environments and platforms;
  • Organization and conduct of scientific and methodological work on digital educational technologies;

Main activities:

  • Development and research of the student’s integrated digital profile (psychological, cognitive, biometric data);
  • Development of diagnostic tools for digital profile modeling – together with the psychodiagnostics laboratory and the ENBISYS company;
  • Development of variable forms of content presentation in an adaptive environment for the individual profile of students (cognitive features, psycho-type, educational needs) – together with the psychodiagnostics laboratory and ENBISYS company;
  • Digital twins in education: modeling and predicting the psychological, cognitive and behavioral characteristics of students to solve the problems of individualization of education;
  • Collection and systematization of educational data from LMS and PLE: methodological, technological, legal, ethical aspects;
  • Data Analytics for education at the University participant of the National Technological Initiative;
  • Educational analytics based on digital data for problem solving for improving the quality of education and developing personalization, including in various learning management systems and online platforms.

Scientific Laboratory of Psychometric Research in Education

 Main activities:

  • Conducting psychometric analytics for online courses (quality of tests, validity of peer assessment, difficulty and interestingness of the content, a map of difficulties faced by students and a network of errors, tracking students’ readiness for education and prediction of their dropouts);
  • Work on upgrading online courses based on psychometric observations;
  • Development of measurement tools for online courses;
  • Work with TSU online lecturers on the development of measurement tools for online courses;
  • Work with a psychometric service on a “single window” resource to improve the quality of online learning;
  • Development of methods and algorithms for measuring the latent parameters of students (knowledge, interest, involvement) and their dynamics based on data obtained from students’ behavior in online environments;
  • Development of a cross-environmental procedure for computing latent parameters, independent of a specific educational platform, which will optimize the quality of educational content, build lifelong and cross-platform personalized educational tracks, and increase the level of content assimilation by students.
  • Development and validation of measurement tools (questionnaires, tests and assessment methods, etc.)
